Orthopedic aids: support services for the educational, social and work inclusion

of people with disabilities

2023 - 2024

ACHIEVED RESULTS: 

• 307 people with disabilities were taken care of by technical staff and SIBC staff, of which 205 were girls and women with disabilities.
• 376 aids distributed. 
• 307 patients and caregivers are trained in the correct use of aids.
• 902 family members of beneficiaries are trained on the correct use of aids. 
• 3441 people know the situation of PCDs and are aware of the services available.

Promotion of social inclusion of girls/boys and adolescents with disabilities in the Province of Esmeraldas-Ecuador

2022 - 2023

ACHIEVED RESULTS: 

• Contributed to promoting the autonomy and social inclusion of people with disabilities in the province of Esmeraldas – Ecuador.
• The boys and girls with disabilities had access to orthopedic surgery and/or the administration of botulinum toxin and to the post-surgical care process with rehabilitation treatments and distribution of orthopedic aids through the network of pre- and post-surgery services.

Empowerment of women with and without disabilities for the prevention of gender violence, through the Community-Based Inclusive Development strategy in the province of Esmeraldas-Ecuador

ACHIEVED RESULTS: 

• Contributed to the development of the technical and collective work skills of the network present in the territory and of the technical staff working in the field of gender violence, providing new tools and methodologies for the prevention and attention of people with disabilities who are victims of violence.
• Contributed to the promotion of violence prevention in local communities and organizations.
• Contributed to raising awareness and strengthening the technical training of justice workers and institutional representatives for the respectful and empathetic attention of the people followed by the Community-Based Inclusive Development program and the local network.

Enhancement of the social role of women, with particular regard to disability in the management, prevention and promotion of rights

2020 - 2023

ACHIEVED RESULTS: 

• Strengthening the rights and social role of women, with particular regard to women with disabilities, caregivers and promoters of the autonomy of children and young people with disabilities.
• Coordination of a socio-health network to support women's rights, which supports their role in prevention, care and promotion of the autonomy of children and young people with disabilities, in the province of Esmeraldas.
• Improvement of maternal and child health in the Province.
• Improvement of the skills of mothers/caregivers in managing children and young people with disabilities, and improvement of the autonomy of people with disabilities followed by the project.
• Increased community sensitivity on the rights and role of women in society.

ACHIEVED RESULTS: Improved maternal and child health in Esmeraldas province through the support of the three main hospitals in the province and the staff in the area; improved the ability of mothers and caretakers in the management of children and young people with disabilities to promote their autonomy by supporting families in taking care of the child with disabilities and in economic independence; improved the sensitivity of the local community on the rights and role of women in society through training and awareness in the area, collaboration and training with and for local institutions and participation in many gender "Tables".

RESULTS ACHIEVED: Community-Based Rehabilitation Program extended to all 7 Cantons of the province of Esmeraldas. Actively involve Local Institutions in the awareness process through the CBR Management Committees. Training in rehabilitation and health care for local collaborators has allowed the constant improvement of the services offered to people with disabilities. Facilitated the school integration of students with disabilities, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, through direct interventions in schools and teacher training. Launch of microcredit programs to promote the autonomy of families where there are people with disabilities

RESULTS ACHIEVED: Improved the inclusion of people with disabilities in the province of Esmeraldas, thanks to a greater awareness of their rights, favoring access to health services and school education. Accompaniment of young people with disabilities in the path of employment and access to social protection services offered by the local government.

RESULTS ACHIEVED: 742 people reached, involving both people with disabilities and able-bodied people on 4 aspects: daily essential kits were delivered, 27 prefabricated houses were built, orthopedic aids were distributed, medical, rehabilitation, psychosocial and animation assistance for children provided.
