OBJECTIVE: to promote the scholastic inclusion of children with disabilities
ORIGIN COMMITMENT: in South Sudan children with disabilities did not have access to education. For this reason, OVCI - in addition to the Rehabilitation Center and the Health Center - has opened a residential service thus guaranteeing the right to study for these children.
COMMITMENT DESCRIPTION: currently there is a preschool for children with disabilities, offering them, in addition to school training, also the guarantee of a daily meal. Since 2016, a class has been dedicated to children with hearing difficulties. This expansion of the service has made it possible to continue the teaching of sign language, involving children, parents and teachers of public schools, as well as other people from civil society. The maximum duration of the Preschool is three years. After this, the children are placed in the primary schools of the city, also in this case OVCI supports the family for school expenses. The Organization guarantees the supervision of schools where children are present, the social worker of the Usratuna Center - in collaboration with the CBID program - supports school leaders to promote real school inclusion for children with disabilities and gives concrete advice to teachers for foster the interaction of children with particular difficulties and special educational needs.
