GOAL: to promote the school inclusion of children with disabilities, the vocational training and work inclusion of young people with disabilities
ORIGIN OF THE COMMITMENT: The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities recognizes the right to education without discrimination and on a basis of equality and opportunity as fundamental (art. 24). OVCI has embraced this principle, guaranteeing education and professional training for children and young people with disabilities. To achieve this commitment, the preparatory work on the local social fabric was fundamental, with an awareness-raising action that led to the establishment in 1999 of the local "Usratuna Sudanese Association for Disabled Children" (USADC), with the aim of offer a qualified response to the rehabilitation and educational needs of people with disabilities.
COMMITMENT DESCRIPTION: OVCI supported the local USADC Association for the start-up of a Vocational Training Center (main office in Omdurman and branch in Dar El Salaam) and an integrated Kindergarten in Dar El Salaam. Since 2017, OVCI has continued the path started at the Integrated Kindergarten, promoting the inclusion in primary schools of the territory of some children with disabilities followed by support teachers adequately trained by OVCI staff.
